Hyperreality

How can day to day places be experienced in a new way? Can we rethink the relationship between stage and audience? Where is the line between performer and spectator and can they merge into one entity?

We conceptualized an immersive performance show that brought new perspectives as to how dance can be experienced. Instead of seperating the audience from the performers, the audience was free to move in an open space in which the performance took place. A special focus was set on a led media installation in which one of the dancers was located. This dancer was wearing a motion capture suite. The data streamed from this suite was used in a virtual reality experience that allowed for another way of experiencing the show. One person at a time could dive into the virtual stage and watch the dance digitally interpreted. At all time the audience was invited to participate in the show, to dance themselves or experience it passively. It was open to join as much or as little as they wanted – to their level of comfort, to never push to much, but to allow freely for the maximum level of experiencing.
